What is Noncardiogenic Pulmonary Edema?
Noncardiogenic pulmonary edema occurs when fluid accumulates in the lungs, leading to respiratory distress without being caused by heart-related issues. Unlike cardiogenic pulmonary edema, associated with heart failure, noncardiogenic pulmonary edema occurs due to factors unrelated to the heart. A common cause of noncardiogenic pulmonary edema is Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), a severe lung condition often triggered by infections (COVID-19), trauma, or other lung injuries. It results in widespread inflammation and fluid accumulation in the lungs.
